Baisakhi 2019 | By Punjabis in Japan
I saw real Punjab in Japan on 13th April 2019 , Saturday in Hirai Community hall. I admit that i enjoyed this Baisakhi Festival a lot along with my wife and friends. Punjabi language is not so tough for me to understand because of good friends in circle so it was so refreshing to watch different energetic performances 🙂
On this occasion of Baisakhi 2019, Punjabis in Japan group took an initiative to invite Indian Diaspora friends and celebrated with a number of Dance performances. A humorous Skit was performed by members, dressed and performed on Bhangras was eye catching. It had an extremely lively tone and the vivacious dance accompanying it matches it well. The dresses worn by the male and female dancers during Bhangra were quite different from each other although both are a reflection of the joyful celebration. The men team dressed up in ‘lungis’ and vibrant turbans, where the latter is mandatory as it represents the pride as well as honor of the people of Punjab. The clothes were loose fitting to ensure ease of movement while dancing.
Baisakhi also known as Vaisakhi marks the Punjabi and Sikh New Year and is a spring harvest festival celebrated in Punjab and Northern India. Baisakhi falls on 14 April this year and it commemorates the formation of the Khalsa Panth, under Guru Gobind Singh in the year 1699. Hindus celebrate the descent of Goddess Ganga on Earth, on Baisakhi. In Punjab, Baisakhi marks the ripening of the rabi harvest and farmers pay their tribute by thanking God for the abundant harvest.
Indian Ambassador H.E. Sanjay Kumar Verma jee along with Prof Siddhartha Singh jee , Director VCC and Shri Avanish Sharma jee, (Minister,Consular ) graced the occasion with their presence and encouraged the organizers with their kind words.
