RELEASE OF THE JAPANESE EDITION OF MY GANDHI’S OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP BOOK BY HER HIGHNESS PRINCESS TAKAMADO
The above mentioned book was released by H.I.H. Princess Takamodo at the elegant Swami Vivekananda Indian Cultural Centre (SVICC) in Tokyo yesterday. In doing so she lauded the book which she had read already and urged members of the audience to acquire and read it as it presents not only the components of Gandhi’s leadership but also its wide spectrum impact and contemporary relevance as perceived by a well informed and widely travelled Ambassador. The others who spoke on this occasion were His Excellency Mr. Sujan Chinoy, Prof. Pema Gyalpo translator of my Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership book, Prof. Cyril Veliath of Sophia University and myself.
In my talk I pointed out that this release event was a deeply emotional moment for me as I had never expected, when I left in Tokyo in July 1963 with my newly married wife, that I would be returning here with her 55 years later for the release of the Japanese edition of a book authored by me, which would be made by the most widely known and admired Princess of Japan’s Royal family.
I also pointed out the potency of Gandhi’s Soul Force ideology and praxis which enables even fearless individuals like Rosa Parks to trigger non violent revolutionary changes which in her case resulted, fifty 53 years later, in bringing a black president into the White House.
The Japanese edition of my book is its 20 foreign language edition. The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri Narendra Modi and His Eminence the Chief Abbot of the Todaiji Temple at Nara (which has a 1300 year old link with India ) sent felicitatory Messages for this event.
The two favourite hymns of Gandhi, Vaishnavo Janato and Lead Kindly Light, which are usually sung by choirs at such events, were presented in an innovative and impactful way on this occasion. The former was a video recording of Ambassador Sujan Chinoy playing a classical version of the first hymn on the sitar and Ms Mianpuii Saiawii, Director of SVICC singing it solo, most movingly. Their video recordings are being posted separately
Of all the many releases of my mentioned book in various parts of the world this was the most elegant and impactful. I am deeply grateful to all those involved in making it so. To show my deep gratitude to Princess Takamdo I draped an Indian silk stole on her which she greatly appreciated. She made the release of the Japanese edition draped in it.
Some photos taken at this event and one taken at the Ambassador Chinoy’s Hanami lunch a few hours earlier, on the terrace of the Embassy of India, which has a stunning view of the Imperial Palace grounds and the moat around it, are posted hereunder.
